Recognized experience in specialty care

The Blue Distinction program gives consumers access to the quality information they need to make informed decisions about specialty care, including weight loss (bariatric surgery), cardiac care, complex and rare cancers, knee and hip replacement, spine surgery, and transplant services. Through the Blue Distinction Center designation, consumers can identify facilities that have extensive experience in these services, meet rigorous quality standards, and consistently demonstrate positive results.

Facilities are selected by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association through a rigorous evaluation of clinical data that provides insight into the facility's structures, processes, and outcomes of care. These nationally established criteria were developed with input from medical experts and organizations and support the consistent, objective assessment of specialty care capabilities.
